WHEREAS, the Census is vital to our community in that it determines the apportionment of seats in the
United States House of Representatives and our state's legislature, and is the basis for the allocation of
billions of dollazs of Federal, State, and County funds for social and other programs; and

WHEREAS, the Census is also used to help determine where to locate schools, day caze centers, senior
citizen centers, hospitals and other facilities and is used to make decisions concerning business growth and
jobs; and
WHEREAS, Census information is confidential and Federal law prohibits any public or private agency from
gaining access to confidential Census data; and
WHEREAS, the City of Central Point is committed to a full accurate Census count and places special
emphasis on enumerating members of population groups traditionally undercounted.
NO W, THEREFORE, DO I, Bill Walton as Mayor ofthe City ofCentral Point, hereby declaze Census
2000 as a top priority for stakeholders and leaders within our community and enwurage participation in
the Complete Count Committee established in Jackson County. I also urge full participation by City staff
in all matters related to technical prepazation for Census 2000, including the annual Boundary and
Annexation Survey, and the Local Update of Census Addresses.
