HomeMy WebLinkAboutCouncil Resolution 621RESOLUTION NO. 621 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CENTRAL POINT ENDORSING THE CITY OF ASHLAND'S APPLICATION FOR A GRANT FROM THE OREGON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUND FOR THE ACQUISITION OF THE MT. ASHLAND SKI AREA Recitals 1. The present owners of the Mt. Ashland Ski Area have announced plans to dismantle the facilities if a buyer is not found by April 6, 1992. 2. Citizens from throughout the Rogue Valley have formed the Mt. Ashland Slci Association, a private nonprofit corporation, for the purpose of raising $1.4 million for the purchase of the slti area by the City of Ashland. The Mt. Ashland Ski Association would then lease and operate the slci area. 3. The Jackson and Josephine County Commissioners have ranked a $350,000 grant for this project as Southern Oregon's first priority for Regional Strategies funds, but even if that grant is awarded in due course, it will not be announced until August, 1992, which is well beyond the April G deadline.. 4. A request. is being made for a $500,000 matching grant. from the Governor's Discretionary Fund. Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CENTRAL POINT, OREGON, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The closure of the Mt. Ashland Slci Area could have a $2 million impact on Southern Oregon's economy, cause the loss of approximately 128 full and part-time jobs, and would remove a substantial recreational facility currently available to residents of Southern Oregon. The City of Central Point supports the City of Ashland's application for a $500,000 matching grant. 1 - RESOLUTION N0. 621 (031792) from Regional Strategies monies and/or the Governor's Discreticnary Fund, to be used in connection with the proposed purchase of the.
