HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 1415ORDINANCE NO. 1415 AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE TIME ArdD PLACE OF REGULAR COUNCIL MEETINGS WHEREAS, Article III, Section 2 and Article V, Section 1 of the City Charter require that the Council shall establish the time and place for holding regular meetings, and WHEREAS, Municipal Code Section 2.04.010 has hereto- fore specified the time, day and place of such meetings, and the City Council desires to amend said ordinance to provide for earlier commencement of meetings and a time limit for the length of said meetings, in order to insure that City business is con- ducted during hours that will ordinarily enable citizens to attend the same, now, therefore, THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF CENTRAL POINT DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2.04.010 of the Central Point Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: 2.04.010 Time, Day and Place Held. The City Council shall regularly meet from 7:00 p.m, to 10:00 p.m, on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at the Central Point City Hall except on holidays prescribed by the laws of the State of Oregon in which event the Council shall meet on the next Thursday following the holiday. Council meetings shall conclude at 10:00 p.m. unless: A. Extended for one additional hour by a two-thirds vote of Council members present, but in no event shall meetings extend beyond 11:00 p.m. B. Adjourned to a later time, date and place certain by majority vote of the Council, in which event said adjourned meeting shall be considered to be the concluding portion of the regularly scheduled Council meeting.. Special meetings may be held as prescribed or per- mitted by Charter, law, ordinance, rule or resolution. Section 2. This ordinance being necessary for the Page 1 - Ordinance No. 1415 immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety of the City of Central Point, Oregon based upon the requirement of Article V, Section 1 of the Charter. mandating that the Council shall at its first meeting establish a time and place for holding its regular meetings and the need by the Council to meet. within 30 days from this date to consider City business, second reading is waived pursuant to Municipal Code 2.04.020, and an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage.
