AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE VOTES CAST AT THE SPECIAL
ELECTION OF MARCH 25, 1980 ON THE QUESTION OF
AMENDING THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF CENTRAL
POINT TO MAKE THE POSITIONS OF RECORDER AND
TREASURER APPOINTIVE RATHER THAN ELECTED
WHEREAS, a special election was held within the City
of Central Point, Oregon. on March 25, 1980 pursuant to Ordinance
No. 1377 , on the question of amending the Charter of the
city to make the offices of Recorder and Treasurer appointive
rather than elective, and
WHEREAS, Central Point City Council met in regular
session at 7:30 p.m. on March 27, 1980 for the purpose of can-
vassing the returns of said special election, and did, during
said special meeting, consider the returns of such meeting, and
WHEREAS, the results of said election were duly certified
to by the Jackson County Clerk and filed with the City Recorder,
and
WHEREAS, the Council has duly canvassed such returns and
have found and determined that said election was duly and regularly
called and held and proper notice therefor was given, now, there-
fore
FOLLOWS:
THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF CENTRAL POINT DO ORDAIN AS
Section 1. The votes cast on the question of an amend-
ment to the Charter of the City of Central Point, Oregon, the
ballot title of which was as follows:
AMENDMENT MAKING RECORDER AND TREASURER APPOINTIVE.
Shall the Charter be amended to change YES
the offices of Recorder and Treasurer

from elective to appointive?
NO
Provides that Recorder and Treasurer be appointed by
Mayor subject to confirmation by Council, instead of elected.
Removes certain Charter duties and retains provision that
Council fix duties and compensation for both offices. Provides
same person may serve in both offices.

1980 be, and the same are hereby, found, determined and declared
to be as follows:
For the amendment 247 votes
Against the amendment 743 votes
Total votes cast 990 votes
Majority in favor of amending
(yes or no) NO
and a majority of the votes at said election having been cast
against such amendment, it is hereby declared that said charter
amendment failed.
Passed by the Council and signed by me in authentication
of its passage this day of 1111 1980.
