January 18 , 1977
' 7 : 30 P .M.
The Planning Commission meeting was called to order by Chairman
Don Banks . Roll call found the following Commissioners present :
Emery , Halley , Hillyer , Mann , McManama, Loveland , Waldron . Absent
being Commissioner Zander. Also present were Secretary Janice
Corbett and a few interested citizens .
The minutes of January 4, 1977 were presented for approval . Motion
was made by Waldron , seconded by Loveland to approve the minutes
as presented . All in favor, motion carried.
Chairman Banks stated that Commissioner Ed Zander has resigned from
the Planning Commission
New Business
Interpretation of C-2 zoning to allow expansion of the Church of
Christ, 335 Oak Street, to Assessor ' s Parcel #37-2W-2CC , Tax Lot
9701 .
Mrs . Force, 335 Oak Street , was recognized and came forth . She
said the church would like to buy their property for the purpose of
a Sunday school . Commissioner Emery said that the Commission would
have to interpret it as a non-conforming use . Commissioner Emery
recommended that this be approved as an accessory building and a
non-conforming use . The whole interior of the house will have to
be one hour fire walls . Fire doors are also to be included .
Motion was made by Waldron , seconded by McManama to grant the use
of this building for that purpose only if they bring it up to the
Uniform Building Code as an accessory building to the Church. Roll
call vote : Emery , yes ; Halley;Jyes ; Hillyer , yes ; Mann, yes ; .
McManama , yes ; Loveland, yes ; Waldron , yes ; Banks , yes . All in favor,
motion carried.
Mr . Gerald Corcoran , 702 Piermont, Ketchikan, Alaska, was recognized
and came forth . Mr. Corcoran stated he has a piece of land right
by Jewett School that he would like to put a motel and restaurant
on . He stated that with the fairgrounds being built this commercial
building would add tourism to the City . It was noted that a zone
change to C-4 would be needed. Mr. Corcoran said that behind the
motel and restaurant along the buffer strip he would like to build a
few apartments for the elderly . ' 1Commissioner Waldron stated there is
a definite need for a motel and restaurant in the City . A general
discussion was held. Chairman Banks told Mr . Corcoran to talk to the
people involved and bring back to the Commission their feelings and
a definite plan for the Commission to look at .
It was the decision of the Commission to continue having two meetings
A a month.
Motion was made by McManama, seconded by Emery t journ the neeting
Meeting adjourned at 8 : 3D P . M.
