HomeMy WebLinkAboutCouncil Resolutions 1859RESOLUTION NO. 1859 A RESOLUTION RENAMING CIVIC PARK TO HENRY “HANK” WILLIAMS PARK WHEREAS, Henry “Hank” Williams faithfully served the City of Central Point as Mayor from 2002 through 2024, providing more than two decades of continuous leadership; and WHEREAS, during his tenure the City advanced key long-range planning efforts, including updates to the Comprehensive Plan and Transportation System Plan, which continue to guide the growth, livability, and investment of Central Point; and WHEREAS, Mayor Williams led the City through significant challenges, including emergency responses during the 2020 Almeda Fire and the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring residents’ safety and continuity of services; and WHEREAS, Mayor Williams supported improvements to municipal facilities and services, including authorization of financing for the Parks & Public Works Operations Facility and the planned Community Center, demonstrating long-term stewardship of public resources; and WHEREAS, Mayor Williams’ legacy is recognized across the region, with the press noting the “indelible mark” he left on Central Point through his dedication, stability, and community-focused governance; and WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the City honor his extraordinary public service in a lasting and visible way that residents and visitors can enjoy for generations; and WHEREAS, the City Council has established procedures and guidelines for naming public lands and facilities through Resolution No. 1138, “A Resolution Providing for Public Procedures and Guidelines for Naming Public Lands and Facilities,”; and WHEREAS, the Central Point Parks and Recreation Commission held a public meeting on November 6, 2025 to discuss the park renaming and forward a recommendation to approve renaming Civic Park to Henry “Hank” Williams Park; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that an exception to the naming criteria is justified to recognize the outstanding contributions of Mayor Williams, a living person, due to his significant contributions to the City of Central Point over an extended period of time, and that this renaming is consistent with the intent and criteria of that policy; Docusign Envelope ID: 52186D64-9A5A-47D9-AF6D-176B46D74DEC NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Central Point, Oregon, as follows: SECTION 1. Civic Park, located at 1010 Rustler Peak Street, shall hereafter be officially known as Henry “Hank” Williams Park. SECTION 2. City staff are directed to update all official maps, signage, publications, and related records to reflect the park’s new name. SECTION 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage and approval.
