Parks Commission Minutes
11/17/16
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER 6:30 pm
II. ROLL CALL- Neil Olson, Lee Orr, Patricia Alvarez, Dennis Browning, Mark
Ludwiczak, Carl Orndoff
III. REVIEW MINUTES—Minutes approved with spelling errors suggested for fixing.
IV. CHANGES TO AGENDA-We will be reviewing the Jump house fees at a future
meeting.
V. PUBLIC APPEARANCES—No public appearances
VI. BUSINESS
A. Review of Master Plan- Conservation Technix. Steve Duh was in attendance
at the Parks Commission meeting to present the draft document of the
Master Plan and answer any questions. Questions asked was what was the
reason for the plan. Was the plan too technical?
Steve shared that the document while technical was to be used as a
blueprint for the future. He also stated that the document would have a
execuative summary that would be more helpful for the general public. He
also stated that all the supporting information is included so that future
planning would understand how ideas and plans were achieved.
Jennifer also stated that she was looking forward to having a document
based on input, although limited from the public to provide guidelines for
future park development.
B. Jump Houses-fees, deposits for Parks rental—Worker to cover rentals- move
to future meeting—May 20107
VII. OTHER BUSINESS—
A. Upcoming meetings for 2017-January 19 (Master Plan Approval), May 18,
Sept 21, November 16. Jennifer reminded commission members to add the
dates listed to their calendar for future meetings.
B. Skyrman Arboretum-Project update- Open House Jennifer told about the
successful opening of the Arboretum. She explained that there was over 30
people in attendance. The Mayor cut the ribbon, provided some words on
his experience with the Skyrmans. Also Chris Clayton told about some of the
history of the arboretum project. Several of the Skyrman family and friends
also attended. The friends expressed their excitement about the project
finally happening and were looking forward to future development.
C. Park Maintenance —Update — Jennifer is working on a contract for
maintenance for the coming year that would be exclusive to the shrub beds
and road islands around the city that park maintained. The Parks crew would
be taking on all the grass areas to ensure better quality and uniformity in

D. Recreation —Update- Battle of the Bones was a great success at the Expo.
The set up and tear down of the event was a great success. We are moving
ahead with future plans to continue with the partnership at the EXPO for
next year in September.
E. Upcoming events- Community Christmas, Mighty Mites
