HomeMy WebLinkAboutCM 120158 (2)37` City of Central Point, Oregon Dec. 1, 1958 The common Council met in regular session with Mayor Faber pre- siding. Roll call found Bigham, Chisum, Gleason, Setness and Yocom, present with Saxbury absent. Minutes of the last regular and adjourned sessions were read and approved. The Council discussed the possibility of annexation of the John Cupp property, and after considerable discussion, a motion was made by Yocom second by Chisum that Mr. Setness be appointed a committee of one to approach Mr. Cupp in:regards to the possib- ility of annexation of his property into this City. Motion carried. The Council studied a map with a new proposed sewer line under the new highway which will be constructed to the East of the city, This would consist of a section of new sewer line connecting with the now existing line in a manhole on the west rightof way of the new highway and crossing to the east of the highway. The other proposed line would be an extension of the existing line on Hazel street this too would be replaced where is crosses under the new highway. A motion was made by Yocom second by Chisum that the City approve the plans as submitted. This to be done at no expense to the city. Motion carried. John Robison came to the council with a request for curbs on West Pine. The council discussed the width they considered nec- essary for the future needs of Central Point. A motion was made by Setness second by Chisum that the width of West Main be 52 feet. This would be the same as it is in the business district. Mr. Cliff Sullivar: came to the council to see if the city was interested in buying crushed rock. He was instructed to bring a price for such rock to the City hall for further consideration. Mr. E. L. Mathews came to the council to discuss the width of Oak street when the new curbs are constructed next year. After discussion by the council, a motion was made by Setness second by Chisum that the new curbs be constructed at the same width as the radius on front street and Oak. The motion carried. A motion was made by Yocom second by Gleason that a letter be sent to the State Highway Commission requesting a meeting with a representative of the Commission to show cause why the City of Central Point shouldn't be permitted to have an access road across the highway as proposed, this access road to be in the N. E. section of the City. The motion carried. Mr. Blackhurst read an ordinance #484 for the spreading of assessments for the construction of a sanitary sewer on W. Pine and Glennway. , A motion approving the ordinance was made by Bigham second" by Chisum. Motion carried. Roll Call Vote. Ayes: Bigham, Chisum, Gleason, Setness Yocom. Nayes, None. 3A.'; Mayor Faber read a request of the Police department for add- itional help. Mr.r.Gleason brought to the Mayor and council a request that they appoint Mr. James Corliss asyhe third policeman. Mr. Gleason stated that he believed that r. Corliss would be an acceptable addition to the City police force. Mr. Faber also expressed the belief that Mr. Corliss would be a good officer if approved by the council The name of Mr. Corliss was presented to the council by Mayor Faber as the third officer of the city police force. A motion was made by Gleason second by Chisum that Mr. Corliss be appointed. Motion carried. A motion was made byChisum second by Setness that the salary by the same as budgeted. This amount was $4,000.00 per year. Motion carried. Mayor Faber brought to the City Council a very enthusiastic report from the league of Oregon Cities meeting which was held in Eugene Nov. 14 to 17, inc. Mayor Faber was very interested in the meeting and told the council of various meetings that he attended and gave a good report of these various meetings. He suggested that some representative of the council try to attend the meetings every year. Mr. Chisum also reported on the parts of the meetings that he attended. He stated that he hopes to be able to attend future meetings. LMr. Gleason requested that the council that they fix the radius of the existing curbs on Manzinita and 7th. They are too low to serve the street needs and of the property adjoining. A motion was made by Setness second by Bigham that the necessary changes be made next year when we are having other curb work done. Motion carried. The council approved a request of Mr. Bigham to have some one clean the leaves off of the park. A request for a light at 9th and Manzanita was presented to the Council. Mr. Yocom, chairman of the light committee was inst- ructed to look into the needs of this area and report to the council. A petition for the construction of concrete curbs and asphalt paving on Oak street between Front street and 7th street was presented to the council. A motion was made by Setness second by Bigham that the petition be approved. Motion carried. A motion was made by Yocom second by Setness that the recorder transfer $4,000.00 from the water fund to the General fund for the needs of the general administration of the city. Motion carried. A motion was made by Gleason second by Bigham that the bills he allowed and warrants drawn on the proper funds for the payment of bill, Salaries indebtedness. Motion carried.
