The council authorized the attorney and administrator to draw
up an ordinance controlling the kind of material used in back-
filling of ditches and other excavation on city property.
The Administrator and the Public Works Superintendent were
instructed to investigate the charges made by Medford for the
installation and backfilling of sewer connects to the various
sewer connects from the laterials to the property lines.
We found the following charges to be made by Medford.
For 4" connects on unpaved streets $60.00.
For 4" connects on paved streets $85.00. Larger lines are
charged accordingly.
The following are costs that we would have to pay should we
install the sewer connects, based on an 80' street.
40' of 4" tile $15.90; 40' ditch 2}' wide and 4}' deep would
require 16yds of creek run gravel @ $1.85=$29.60 Time for
digging and installation would average 6 hours for one man
which would be a minumum of $45.00. Total cost $90.50
A request for condemnation of ar. old abandoned hen house on
the Bonningson property located at 405 N. second, was referred
to the planning committee.
The bills were presented to the council for audit and a motion
was made by Saxbury second by Chisum that the bills be allowed
and warrants be drawn on the proper funds for the payment as
needed. Motion carried.

The Common Council met in adjourned regular session with acting
Mayor,Bigham presiding. Roll call found: Ayers,Bigham,Chisum,
Patterson and Saxbury,present. Absent: Colley.
The minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved by a
motion by Patterson,second by Ayers. Motion carried.
Mr. Bacon, the County Librarian, and Mrs. Mentzer, Chairman of the
County Library Board, met with the Council to discuss the library
problems and needs. Mr. Bacon indicated they are going to get more
books and other services not available in the past. Books included
will be new Encyclopediay,visual aids for youngsters, and other types
;-� of books. Mr. Bacon expressed hope of keeping the library open at
least thirty (30) hours per week.
A motion by Don Patterson,second by Chisum that a resolution be drawn
ordering the Recorder to send a letter to the Jackson County Court
requesting the library to be open more hours and that more books be
supplied.
Mr. George Johnson asked the Council what action had been taken
regarding the pollution problem. Mr. Blackhurst reported on action
taken so far. Mr. Blackhurst introduced Mr. Ed Collins of Mt.Pitt
Lumber Company, who told the Council of action they had taken at
Mt. Pitt trying to overcome the fall -out from the burners. Mr. Collins
told of a meeting with State authorities and of improvements they
have made on their burner in cooperation with the state authorities.
Mr. Blackhurst indicated to the people that this pollution problem
' cannot be settled over night, or is it an easy problem to control.
Mr. Collins told the council that he would cooperate in any manner
possible.
A motion was made by Ayers, second by Patterson that Mr. Blackhurst
contact Mr. Cheny and invite him to attend the next Council meeting.
Motion carried.
A motion was made by Patterson, Second by Chisum, that the City sell
water to the Crater Ospeopathic Hospital. Motion carried.
Mr. L.E. Mathews,Jr. came to the Council to discuss the possibility
of widening Oak Street to a 48 foot street. The Council feels that
as the existing curbs being for a 40 feet width, that they should leave
Oak as it is now.
Mr. Blackhurst read an Ordinance #528, being an Ordinance 4onfirning
the sale of the South 112 feet of Lots 12-13-14-15-16 of Block 2 to
the Church of Christ. This property was sold to the Church of Christ
before
Motion was made by Bigham second by Chisum Roll call: Ayes;
Ayers, Bigham, Chisum, and Patterson, Saxbury. Motion Carried.
Mayor Mason declared Ordinance 528 duly adopted.
Because of shortage of funds-, it was decide to wait until next fall
to have survey work done on 8th Street.
Mrs. Pearl Nicholson at 515 Cherry Street was granted permission to
install an additional driveway.

The monthly financial report was read to the council and
a motion was made by Ayers second by Patterson that the
report be accepted as read. Motion carried.
There being no more business, a motion was made by Chisum
second by Colley that we adjourn to the call of the mayor.
