HomeMy WebLinkAboutCM 050360460 City Hall City of Central Point, Oregon May 3,1960 The Common Council met in adjourned regular session with Mayor Mason ; presiding. Roll call found: Ayers, Bigham, Chisum, Colley, Patterson, ,present. Absent,Saxbury. Mr. J. Hays came to the Council to see if anything had beendone to , correct the adverse conditions at Cheney's Mill. Mr. Frank Van Dyke,attorney for Pacific Utilities with Mr, Martin Send%, Vice-president of Pacific Utilities, came to the Council to find the feeling of the Council on the future of natural gas in this area. They wanted to know the general feeling of the Council toward a franchise to serve the area. Mr. Van Dyke stated that their company estimate the cost to be between 25 to 30 percent cheaper than electricity or bottled gas. The expected date of gas in the area around Klamath Falls would be about the end of 1961. Mr. Van Dyke indicated that their company has the financial -backing to bring natural gas to this area. TJey would like to know within a reasonably short period of time, the feeling of the City officials toward such a franchise. Mr. Tom Whittle came to the Council with a request to vacate an alley on 9th Street,between Maple and Laurel Streets. The minutes of the planning committee went on record opposing the vacation. Mayor Mason referred the problems back to the Planning Commission. Mr. Kennth Lamb'�came to the Council to see if he could buy the clock in the City Hall. It was decided to table the matter until ' such a time as we should move into the new building. George Johns came to the Council to see if a Beauty Shop would be permitted in Zone one,residential, as he would like to sell his property to someone as a residence and beauty shop. A motion was made by Patterson,second by Chisum, that the request for a Beauty Shop in lone I be disallowed. Mr. Eloy Sutton came to the Council with a request from the Fire Department for reserve parking on the East side of Third Street across from the Fire Hall,this for daylight hours. The Council decided against prohibiting such parking at this time. The Council discussed again at this meeting the awarding of the cont- racts on Hazel Street,Third to Tenth. The Council determined it would be in the best interest of the city to use 6 in. and 2 in., rather than crushed rock. Therefore, the bid of M.C. Lininger is considered to be the best bid. Ordinance # 550 was read by Mr. Blackhurst, this being an Ordinance accepting bid and providing for the execution of a contract with Rogue.River,PavingCompany for the paving of South Second Street -Pine to Oak. A motion was made by Bigham,second by Ayers that Ord. #550 be adopted.oll call: Ayers, Chisum, Colley,Patterson,Bigham; Ayes R , Nayes; none. Lininger & Sons for paving and construction of curbs, First Street -Pine to Oak. A motion was made by Colley, second by Patterson that the Ordinance be adopted. Roll call: Ayes,$ Ayers,Bigham, Chisum, Colley, Patterson. Nayes; none. Ordinance #552 declared duly adopted. Ordinance # 553 was read by Mr. Blackhurst, this being an Ord. accepting bid and providing for the execution of a contract with M.C. Lininger & Sons for paving and construction of curbs on Hazel Street -Third to Tenth. A motion was made by Patterson, second by Chisum that Ordinance #553 be adopted. Roll call: Ayes, Ayers, Bigham, Chisum, Colley, Patterson, Nayes, None. Ordinance #553 declared duly adopted. The minutes of the Planning Commission were read. Some of the items were referred back to the Commission for further study. The Recorder and attorney were instructed to draw up an Ordinance to regulate any excavation and back -fill on Public streets. The financial statement was read to the Council. A 'Potion was made by Colley,second by Bigham that the financial statement be approved. The minutes of the previous meeting had been tabled until later,were now read.
