Budget Meeting .
Present A.D. Van Horn, Harry Tonn, Robert Manasco, David Almquist,
Ray George, Ernie Wisely, Lucy Matejka, Les Bigham, Fern Mills,
Ivan Burton.
Absent: Allen Hill, Roger Reynolds, Ray Novasad.
Also present: Sterling Tucker, Vern Capps, Chief of Police Sanders,
Sgt. Corliss, Stubbs.
A.D. Van Horn nominated Ivan Burton as chairman. Nominations were
closed. Ernie Wisely nominated Lucy Matejka for Secretary. Nominations
were closed.
Mr. Tucker said League of Oregon Cities $546. instead of $500.
Should have more money in street lights. If need to cut, use misc.
operating contingency. Sinking fund for second fire truck. Bond
issue coming up for first truck.
Discussion on Police Dept. New record system is 2 overtime and extra
amount also file.
" Overtime is better than comp. time. Someone has to be on duty all the
time. Chief Sanders said new recruits have no incentive after six
months. They will leave for better pay in other cities. Sgt. less
than Medford patrolman. Wants incentive raise $3,642. on two
patrolmen. Johnson was offered job in Medford. $582.50 pay here.
-9.50 lowest in Medford. Been here three years. Corliss last year
no raise. 1962 radar was bought. Gone. Stevenson radar good one.
Discussion on Water Dept. 7% increase in water this fall. No raise
to people this year.
Increase contingency fund from the Rostel & 2nd Sts. replacement fund.
Taylor Rd. repair, 600 ft, outside of city. Check on ordinance for
maintaining hookups outside of city. Three connects on Taylor Rd.--
Bateman, Krupp and Bohnert. Forty connects outside of city in all.
No grand stand work at Richardson, Money into contingency fund.
Maybe give land to school.
Work on Pine St. now. Council discuss this. Report later.
Sewer fund. Public Works needs a rodder. Discussion on tires,
sewage treatment. Storm drains primary thing. Federal funds for
Bear Creek projects, hopefully. Vern Capps said there is no overtime--
comp. time satisfactory.
Recorder Dept. Discussion on administrator's car, .(need work), dues,
schools. Recreation full $2000. as school budget passed. Give to
school they administer it.
attorney does more work than one meeting a month. Judge spends more
time here.

Sterling Tucker said budget is close to balancing. Think about
$5,000. 7~ or more increase in salaries.
Next meeting May 7, 1970, 7:00 p.m. Wind up and approve the budget.
