HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRM031501.,~ CITY OF CENTRAL POINT Park Commission Meeting March 15, 2001 • REGULAR MEETING CALLED TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Carol Fischer at 7:00 p.m. II. ROLL CALL: Carol Fischer, Mack Lewis, Julie James, and Caitlin Biedscheid were present. Bob Gilkey, Ralph Hale, David Sills, D.J. Sweet, Brett Johnson, Jeff Smith were absent. Public Works Director Bob Pierce, Parks and Recreation Coordinator Nancy Hanson and Karen Roeber were also present. III. MINUTES A. Approval of February 15, 2001 „City Parks Commission Minutes Carol Fischer made a motion to approve the minutes as presented. Mack Lewis seconded. IV. PUBLIC APPEARANCES There were no public appearances. Carol Fischer closed the Public Appearances portion of the meeting. V. BUSINESS A. Park Commission General Duties Nancy Hanson went over the general duties of the Park Commission members. B. Park Naming Guidelines Nancy Hanson asked the Park Commission members to look over the (3) three park naming policies obtained from the cities of Medford, Bend and Gresham and to submit their recommended guidelines for the City of Central Point to her by the end of April. She will then put together a rough draft of park naming guidelines for the City of Central Point to be discussed at the next Park Commission meeting. C. Review Master Plan Nancy Hanson requested (3) three bids for updating Central Point's Master Plan. She has received a bid from McKeever Morris and McDonald Environmental and the third company was not interested. McDonald Environmental, which did Central Point's last Master Plan, is the low bid. Nancy stated this should be started quickly and be completed and paid for by the end of June 2001. ® D. Skate Park Update Bob Pierce and Nancy Hanson have met twice with the school district to discuss the City purchasing the 3'/2 acres East of Central Point Elementary for the Skate Park. The school ,> ~~~.. :~ board wants the City to own the property and has agreed to write a letter for the City skate park. They would like to partner with the.City in field maintenance and parking. They gym would be used for park equipment storage for the City's Parks Department. The • transportation facility would be at Hamrick Rd. and W. Vilas. Mack Lewis and his son's are opening a skate board shop in Central Point in the old Ace Hardware location, so he has decided that he will abstain from debate on the skate park but would still be a source for information. E. Southeast Park Update Bob Pierce stated a temporary sign has been posted on site showing the park development plans and completion is scheduled for the end of June 2001. VI. MISCELLANEOUS Nancy Hanson has about 25 classes set up for the Spring/Summer session. The brochure will be in April's water statements and available at the library, City Hall and will also be sent home with school students. Carol Fischer requested Pfaff Park restrooms be open on during the day Saturdays and Sundays. Bob Pierce will check on. It was decided not to have a meeting in April as there would not be sufficient information to update on the skate park, and to give members a chance to complete their recommendations for the City's park naming guidelines. The next meeting has been scheduled for May 17, 2001 at 6:00 p.m. VII. ADJOURNMENT The Central Point Parks Commission Meeting was adjourned by consensus at 7:30 p.m.
