E. G. Fehrenbach and Geo. Ulrich,
representatives of the Homn Telephone
Co. of Southern Oregon, were in the
city Tuesday, when they filed with
Recorder Jacobs an application fot a
franchise for their company to enter
the city, construct lines and do busi-
ness here.
The company have ~n extensiv® aye-
tem in Medford and atI•e now construct-
ing lines through the valley, expecting
ultimately to connect up the entire
valley from Grants Pass to Ashland.
A system has already been installed at
Woodville and ono is now undor con-
aeruction at Gold Hill and Grants Psary,
According to the terms of the franchise
asked for, the company will place all
wires crossing streets under ground,
no pole linos being permitted within
the municipality except in the alleys.
The service offered is guaranteed to b@
strictly modern, and it is the desire of
the company to either taks ov@r the

modern and satisfactory service. With
their service the simple taking down of
the receiver gets central without ring-
ing, and on party lines any particular
phone can be reached without any other
phone on the line being disturbed. '
The franchise will be considered n8

Medford Sun Changes Hands.
Lindley C. $ranson, editor and part
awnex of the Medforn Sun, has dispos-
ed of his interest in that newspaper Co
Robert W. Ruhl, a young newspaper-
man of Spokane, who has bean for sev-
eral years a member of the editorial
staff of the Spoknneaman-Review, of
that city. S. S. Smith, business man-
ager of the paper, retains his interest
and stock in the paper. Mr. Ruhl as-
sumed the editorial chair Monday morn-
ing. Mr. Branson has not announced
his futyr@ plena but it is probable h@

in nnoth@r fletd. The Gerald extends
fraternal greetings to our new noigh-
