Mrs. Doris Coleman, who lived

at 12:50 o.m. $ridey, started in
the garage adjolnirrg the Coleman
home. Cause of the blaze is un-
known.
Fire spread from the garage to
the Coleman home end than to the
house at rear of the lot 1n which
the Land family was living. dtin-
utes later an unoccupied third
building an rho same lot exploded
into flames. This thlkd structure,
previously occupied by the )$and
family, had been Bhe cease of
three prevfaus~ tires within ehe
pest year and one-half.
When the alarm soundod, the
,garage was a mess of dramas. Sec-
onds later when t3remen arrived,
the garage had aoklapsed and 4he
dire had spread to the remaining
'buildings.
Using high pressure water lines
the city volunteer firemen were
able to bring the fire under con-
trpl and prevent it from _apresd-
ing to adjoining homes. The clos-
est residence, .that of Paul pierce
at 260 North First, was undamag-
ed.
Fire Chief Oran Chastain re-
ported that the fire made such
rapid head~xay because of poor
construction. The inaldc wnlle of
two of the lwildinge were cover-
ed avith aardbom3l and there were
no •firn stops in these bulltlings.

broken toe on his right{aot when
a spectator, who was ~aap!ating
with fire tigitting, dropped n piece

had been ,burned in half near ono
of the ibuildinga. The incident oc-
curred before COPCQ linemen
-had arrived to-turn ofP .power.
All three city fire trucks were
oft the scene of the blaze. A radio
call to-the Medford Fire Depnrt-
ment was made to hove n truck
standby in the Medford hall in
case of another tire.
Twenty-one of the 24 city
volun4eere were on duty at this
fire. Iri ~addilian, a ]urge number
of spectators, many of whom wrre
{ormer eityrvolunteera, pitched in
and assisted 4he fire crew.
Chief Chastain praised the de-
~partmen4 members and offered
his thanks to the tunny local resi-
dents who gave nsslatence
Mrs.-Coleman is now making
her home with her son. Monty
Coleman o4 Central Point. Mrs.
Land and her children have found
housing at~ Mitchell's Court at
Midway Four Corners.
