The city council mot at tlto c)ty
hall last evening for the purpose
of hearing any objections which
might have been filed in regard to
the proposed building of sidewulks
alatg East Pine streets from Sfxth
street to 10th street.. City-Recorder
Arden Pinkhtun reported that. he
had received no such olsjt:etiohs and
{tte councit then proceeded 6o pass
•tle necessary ordinance ordering
tthat 4-foot cement si_dewalk& be
built oit both sicics of that street
and fha cost assessed Against the
adjacent in•operty owners.
It appca[•ed that Borne of these
property owners desire to build
their own wallcs and were fold that
they might do so,~but that the city
wotild expect that such walks would
be built wit"in Sixly~ days.
A delegation o[ property owners
living along I•'reeman Road 'cam{i
before the cowici] and stated that
it had buerv found that the cost oP
biriliiing the proposed sewer line
would be amts than i-.ad been an•
tieipated arid they acre, having dit-
fieUlty in raising the fund., nece;-
sar}•, Severn] me^ibe•~: -oi the
council statal that they felt that
they had clone their Cull duty in
the matter. The cily'had completed
the portion of ~ the jab they had
agreed upon and thou~hl it na more
than right and fair Gt expec•t the
interested property owners to do
,their part as promised. - -
City Attorney Bengtson told khc
delegation that so.. far as the city
was concerned there were hvo
things to do-either float a bond
issue to pay the cost an:i (rave such
cost assessed as a lien against all
property involved, or fm~ the pro-
perty owners to y;et together and
subscribe the necessary funds, and
at the same time tar Them to niakc
some arrangement between .those
who advanced the money for those
unable to pay at this time and the
rest;- to pay this money lArck at
some later elate.
After much debate the matter
was held up until such tune as throe
property owners can .decide u9t:,!
to do.
