American 05/19/1949 (2)v I I®'I~A.s~I,~S.O Hp im innocent 8pefander A public meeting of much 'vn• porlance to the people o[ this section of Jackson county is to be held 'n~- the high sehpoL gymnasium . ne a Thdisday evening. .It is being head [or the purpose of talking over the proposed consolidation of the Cen- tral Point, Willow Springs,' Tolo, God Hill, Sama Valley end Table Rock school districts. An election , on the question has been called for , June 1 in the various districts. 1 ' These six districfs are facing ti! ~ serious condition at fhe present lime. The plain fact is chat there I . are mm~e school children in these ~ districts than there are facilities tof take care of Them. At the present' lime only Centro] Point and Goi:i I Hill opeYate high schools, already overcrowded. Coming along In the Grade school's of all the districts arc more children than ever before in i t the history of the county, and they will,j~e soon entering these high , schools. In other words, the child- ren are coming into the country [aster than the sehoots can process them. r C. P. American ~•~S•~4Y~ ,.~ Under the present law limiting the amount of bonds a district may ' issue in proportion to the assessc<l value of the district, there isn't one 1 of the six districts which could t ,possibly bond •. itself for enough 1 money to build a new high school big enough to care .tor the certai^ ` increase. But if the districts conso- t lidato the combined'_assessed value L (about $x 000,000) will allow the t , issuance of enough bonds to build 1 such a school. The grade schools would continue to, operate in their t present location and in the two `- high school districts the grades r could occupy the present high ' school buildings. 1 t The whole proposition has much I merit: It seems a common sense •`- solutiun of the problem. And we L believe thak such a district as the t consolidated one would be can be c operated cheaper then the separate t districts possible can he and we can r see nothing in the proposed idea - which will injure any one. A check t ,~f some six other com6~ined districts E in the state having a comparable . assessed value and about the same t number of school children in each, t shows that the average tax last year s was about '32 mills. Tire avera;r. c lax for the six local districts 1\a I Y~•ar was A7.1 ~ mills. So- it would appear that such a Nonsolidation ` •x~nuLi be amoney-saving- proposi- ~ t Is IL .a nn1A a...,o~r ~F>, ,Fo.-e woe ~
