Several layers of asphalt end:
rock were laid, "the first being of
raarse rack for base, fnllawed by .
other layers- of finer rock anct
finished with very- ,fine materia~i.
This fine material will gradually
pack down into. the asphalt and
'leave a smooth. surface, free from
loose particles.
The new paving Is Zara _inches
thick in the center of the street,
and the depth gradually taporing off
to nothing neat' the gutters, This
~ makes ctuite a "crown" to. the
'street, which is not as desirable as
might be wished, but lack of Sunda
prevented the removal of the old
asphalt surface down to the Cori-

a much better jab, However, thu

soon as the now bridge east of the
city is opened. to Heavy travel.
The contt•actor is busy at present
~~ bringing the manhole covers up to
the new grade and also uncovering
the survey monuments at street
intersections. •
