,~NE matter that should not be
forgotten by the people of
Centra[ Point is the urgent need
of the tpwn for a system oi` water
works that will at~'6rd adequate
fire protection. As conditions
now are, the town is absolutely
without any protection front the
fire fiend and i f a conflagration
should ever t;et under way i,he
town, or at least a good portion
of it, is doomed. The recent ac-
tiofl of the fire insurance com-
panies in aaising the rates of in-
suraneo in t,lzis state 25 per cent,
makes insurance well nigh pro-
hibitive.in many ranks and the
only apparent relief is in a good
water system. Central Point has
been, indoed, fortunate in the
past in escaping serious loss by
fire, but we can hardly hope to
always escape thus pickily.
-, Aside from the aafegttarsl
against fire which an available
water supply wotild afford, the
town needs more wator for do-
mestic use and irrigation pur-
poses. WiCh an abundance of
water Central Paint could be
Hnade one of the very prettiest
home towns on the coast and the
value of all property wauld be
very materially .advanced with
the -completion of an adequate
sy~Gem.
---ft-would; of coar~te, necessarily
cost some money, but not a great
amount. A few thousand dal-
Iars would do the work, and it is
pPobable enough water would be
sold from the iatart to pay run-
ning expenses and more.
Recent experiences of they
neiRhboring~ town of Medfor-d
with a shortage of the ciCy water
supply in two or three cartes of
fire, shows what we may ®xpect
C.P. Herald in similar cases without any. '
