A total of 1308 Central Point
subscribers to Pacific Telephone
& Telegraph Co. telephone ser-
vice received new 1956 director-
ies Monday of this week.
The new books, which include
Medford, Ashland, Gold FIitl,
Jacksonville, Eagle Point, White
City and other listings, replace,
a temporary telephone book used
here following the switch to dial
telephone service last~Agril 2.
In this new directory, Central
Point telephone numbers are in-
cluded in the Medford section o!
the book. All Central Point num-
bers axe identified by the symbol
{CP) and by the NO 4 prefix.
Honor for the first Central
Point listing in the new book
goes to William C. Abbott. The
last Central Point number in the
directory is for Basil k'. Zimmer-
lee.
An artist's sketch of recrea-

river is printed on the front cov-
~er of the new books- The sketch
is copied from a picture provid-
rd by the state highway com-
mission and -shows a family
camped near a bend in the river.
The initial delivery numbered
15,•155 directories, according to
J. 1a. Creager, manager. These
hooks were distributed in Cent-
ral Point, Medford, Phoenix,
Gold Hill and Jacksonville,
The 1956 book is 20 pages
larger than the 1955 edition. A
total of 27,000 directories were
printed by Metropolitan Press of
Portland with 22,000 for Medford
and vicinity and 5,000 for the
Ashland area.
The press run required= 23,079
