An ordinance providing for the ap-
' pointment by the mayor of a marshal,
street commissioner, water superin-
tendent and fire chief was adopted and
' the appointments of Rod Easly, fire `

made, were approved. Tho salary of r

month.
The salary of J. W. Jacobs, which
had been previously fixed at the muni- a
. ficent sum ,of $10 per_,month, was, in a 7

~ doue amount of 825.00. Mr. Jacobs de- 1'
votes practically all of his time to look- t
' ing after the affairs of the city, and it ~ ~
was a sourceaf surprise to many that n
' the city fathers should expect him to v
give his time for leas than $60 or $60 e
- per month. He has in the past, as a t
' 'member of the council, devoted much I t
' time to the promotion of the water ~ f
system and .to the betterment of our a
' streets without one .cent of pa and 1
now is expected to give practically all t
of his time to the public for a mere
pittance.
