WHEREAS, the Congress and President of the United States have desig- ~~ ~ s
Hated May 15"' as Peace Officers''Memorial Day, and the week inwhich May r, ' a
15`~falls as National Police Week; and ; ~~,.~-~,~~ ,y.
WHEREAS, the members of the City of Central Point Police Department play ,~ ' ~ ~, '
an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of this community; ; f?~ ~~ f~; ~,t
and ~+ ~ „~ ~„
WHEREAS, it is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, ~ ~~`•'• ~;° ~'
responsibilities, hazards, and sacr~ces of their law enforcement agency, and ~,~, ~ ,. ~.., °a
that members of our law enforcement agency recognize their duty to serve the F ;~; E „y
people by safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence `~ ~ : ,- ;
and disorder, and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak ; ~ .~~ ;g
against oppression; and ";; a ';
WHEREAS, the men and women of the City of Central Point Police Depart- ~" ? ~"_ n'"'~'~
merit unceasingly provide a vital public service to the citizens of this commu- ,~~ k~a. ;', ,.
nity. ~
NOW, THEREFORE, I, HANK WILLIAMS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF CEN- t+~ 'j4 . ~~ ',°
TRAL POINT, OREGON call upon all citizens of this community and upon all ~ ~~~,, : ,,
._ patriotic, civic and educational organizations to observe the week of May 11- ~' '~ 'x `'

servances in which all of our people may-join in commemorating law enforce- ~ , , st.;;i„
`` merit officers, past and present, who, by their faithful and loyal devotion to i ';
their. responsibilities, have rendered a dedicated service to their communities °y~ ~;. ~" ~• `°
,: and, in so doing, have established for themselves an enviable and enduring r , zr, , .;
reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens. ~, „ `
I further call upon all citizens of the City of Central Point o observe Friday, ~' ,~!' r ~'
May_ 15, 2009 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day in honor of those law enforce- ~ A ~ ri
merit officers who, through their courageous deeds, have made the ultimate ~,
sacrifice in service to their community or have become disabled in the per- ~ ~ ~ `°~~~ °"`
• formance of their duty, and let us recognize and pay respect to,the survivors <y ~'.,.', ~ ';
• of these fallen heroes. `
