HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation - Building Safety WeekBuilding Safety Week PROCLAMATION WHEREAS: The safety of the buildings we occupy daily is essential to the health, safety, and welfaze of the citizens of Central Point Oregon; and WHEREAS: Among the world's most fundamental laws and ordinances are those that provide standards for the construction of buildings in which our citizens may live, work, and play safely; and WHEREAS: Building codes standards are designed to help ensure occupants' safely not only day-to- day, but also in disaster situations such as fires, floods, earthquakes, and storms; and WHEREAS: Building permits, inspections by code professionals, and the use of licensed contractors on any construction job help ensure the safely and value of Oregonians' homes, offices, and public buildings; and WHEREAS: Inspections help ensure that construction work meets the standards of the building code, revealing problems that could lead to costly repairs, and life and safely concerns such as fire hazards, structural weaknesses, or av quality problems; and WHEREAS: State and local code officials work with the construction industry to ensure safe buildings for the public they serve; and WHEREAS: The City of Central Point in partnership with the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services' Building Codes Division, the Oregon Building Officials Association, the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office the Southern Oregon Chapter of International Code Council, and the Oregon Construction Contractors Board, is promoting the awareness of building and construction codes as the foundations for building safety. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Hank Williams, Mayor of the City of the City of Central Poirt hereby proclaim May 7- 11, 2006 to be Building Safety Week in the City of Central Point and encourage all citizens to join in this observance.
